Inspiration Boards :: Parisian Elopement

April 7, 2012 § Leave a comment

For some reason lately, all I want to do is go on a secret getaway to Paris with my husband. The only thing more romantic is to actually go to Paris and elope. There is something about going off to a foreign place with hundreds of thousands of people and the only one you know is your love. Standing in your gown, your love in a tux under the witness of God and onlookers who are enamored with the thought of the love you must have for one another. For now, I am keeping my getaway obsession to perusing photos and living vicariously through those who have experienced the romance of eloping in a foreign country.

Wine Down Wednesday :: The Ramos Gin Fizz

I might be hard pressed to find a drink more appetizing and yummy as this. What makes a good cocktail for me is not only the taste, but the rich history behind it. The Ramos Gin Fizz has it all.

The Ramos Gin Fizz was crafted by Henry C. Ramos in 1888 at his bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. Before the prohibition, it was said that Ramos employed over 20 bartenders in order to meet the demands of making this drink.

The cocktail is now known as one of New Orleans most famous drinks. It has become more of a brunch time staple because of it’s fizzy and soothing qualities after a night out. Expect to wait a little bit after ordering. It takes approximately 12 minutes to mix and is definitely worth the wait.

Ingredients
*1 1/2 oz. gin
*1 oz. simple syrup (1:1 ratio)
*1/2 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
*1/2 oz. fresh-squeeze lime juice
*1 egg white (pasteurized) or powdered egg white
*1 oz. heavy cream
*3 drops orange flower water
*1 oz. club soda, chilled

In a shaker, combine all ingredients except soda and shake vigorously to combine. Add ice cubes and shake again for at least two minutes to provide the drink’s distinctive silky texture. Strain into tapered highball glass or wine flute, top with club soda, stir, and serve.

Style & Substance

About a month ago, I got a call from my friend Leonardo D’Almagro. He is the style and fashion director for NSIDE Magazine, a business and medical magazine for Austin, TX. They were putting together a styled shoot for the magazine and needed a location, so of course, I was happy to help! Racks of chic clothing, hair and makeup artists, stunning models, and to-die-for hats. I was pretty much in heaven. Here’s the spread!

Minty Green, Tangerine, & Anemone…Happy Spring!

March 31, 2012 § Leave a comment

Spring definitely came a bit early this year. Pollen counts aside, I couldn’t be happier! Every color is so vibrant and lush that it is almost impossible not to appreciate the beauty that is around. Along with a new season comes my need for a fresh new color palette. Check out some the colors I’ve been slightly obsessed with lately…

Mint Green
So fresh, crisp, and cool. What a complement to almost any color.

Tangerine
One of the happiest of colors. This is one color that has enough presence to stand alone.

Anemone
This springtime flower comes in many beautiful colors. It stands to be one of the most intriguing and bold flowers of the season.

Wine Down Wednesday :: White Sangria

February 1, 2012 § Leave a comment

I can not get this drink out of my head! Last Friday, Tanner and I went over to our good friends’ (Krysta and Efrain) house. These people know how to entertain! There, she had the prettiest little drink and it was as yummy as it was beautiful!

White Sangria

*1 bottle of white wine

*3 cans 7up or Sprite

*3 ounces of Grand Marnier

*Seeds of 1 pomegranate (she used frozen grapes, which I loved)

*Slices of 2 limes
